Short introduction:

| It is coming again, the most important festivity of the year of the Chinese community. This year it will be on the 9th of February. The Chinese new year always takes place at the end of January or the beginning of February, this comes from the difference between the Western and the Chinese calender. The Chinese calender has a zodiac, which means that for every year there is a specific animal attached to it, with a special meaning for the people who are born in that particular year. In this zodiac are the following animals: mouse, taurus, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, ape, rooster, dog and pig. These animals reappear every twelve years. Furthermore, each month has thirty days and every four years there is an extra month which also has thirty days, this is because of the leap year. According to the Chinese zodiac, the year of the dragon, the year 4709, is coming. |
